Rare 1890s Antique Book Poems Annie Maude Broaddus Richmond VA New England Music

EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF LATE 19TH CENTURY HISTORY This is a true antiquarian gem: a privately printed, posthumous collection titled Poems by Annie M. Broaddus. Annie Maude Broaddus was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1867 and graduated in harmony and theory from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. This deeply personal collection of poetry was compiled and published by her family and friends shortly after her tragic passing in the mid-1890s at the young age of 26 or 27. Because this was privately funded and distributed strictly to close family and friends in a tiny regional municipal run (likely in Richmond, VA circa 1894), it is exceptionally scarce and missing from major library databases. It features an incredibly moving Memoir section detailing her life as a talented young violinist and pianist. This book is approximately 130 years old and shows honest historic wear. The faded teal cloth hardcover has intricate black ornate detailing and gold-stamped lettering. The spine shows sun-fading, a trail of dark ink/moisture spotting, and fraying/softening at the top headcap. The pages are clean, flat, and securely bound except for the first two pages (the Preface section), which are pulling away from the spine due to age. From a smoke-free environment.
